Sins

Last night, like usual, I played basketball with my bunch of friends at the basketball court not far away from my house. Yes, these friends were not my normal friends, they were my respectful foster brothers. My luck was bad while we were playing. Every shots I made did not get in the basket, no matter it was two points or three points. Of course, I was annoyed by the mistakes I made like snatching the ball from my teammates, tapping the ball to the out of bounce zone and many more. Worse still, the teammates weren’t some strangers. They were my foster brothers!

Finally, everyone went back after two hours of tiring match. The only one remained was my big brother, Kelvin. He invited me to eat supper at “Husimah”, somewhere near the fire brigade in Tanjung Tokong. Since I was not planning anything last night, I agreed and followed him. When we were waiting for our suppers, we chatted for a while. “How’s your preparation for your SPM?” He asked.

“Don’t need ask. I’m dying.” I replied. “I studied in the library near Union High School today. Finally, I make some preparation.”

Looking at his appearance, I knew something was wrong with him. He never asked me about my academic performance. Why did he ask about my SPM that night? Something was definitely wrong! “Then, why did you play so bad just now? Lay up is your specialty! And, you missed five times continuously just now! Are you thinking something else while playing?” He asked.

His question surely stunned me. I did not know how to answer. So, I remained silent. He must be blaming me for losing the match against the other just now. If I did not miss the lay ups, we would have won the game. So, I apologized to him and promised I will play better next time. “You know that isn’t the main point. Something’s bothering you? Are you being bullied by some other people? Maybe I should help.” He said.

“No. I appreciate it. Just having some problems while in the library.” I said. “But, these can be settled after some time. So, don’t worry.”

He remained silent. Then, he looked at me with those suspicious eyes. Bah! I knew he wanted me to tell him. But, I did not know how to express to him. “I know your personality, Dennis. Let me guess… Family or friends?” He asked.

Again, I was stunned by his question. He said he wanted to guess, but that was not a guess. That was a question! “Both! I’m sick of this life I’m going through now.” I exclaimed. My sound was so loud that the people eating on the other tables turned to look at me. How humiliating!

He hesitated for a moment. “Ah! Your family problems I knew already. But I could not help. I shouldn’t get involved. If friends, I still can do something about it. Speak it out! I’m your big brother, remember?” He said.

Finally, I was just going to speak everything out in the end. There must be no secret between brothers, eh? I understand. So, time for speaking out my anger. “I met up with a girl I didn’t want to meet while studying in the library. Well, you know… I can’t face her!” I said.

“Eh? Which girl so unlucky makes you think like that?” He asked. By that time, the food already sent to our table.

Well, that’s not the main problem anyway. And, stop mocking me! “I done something wrong a few years ago. So, I was afraid when I met up with her. So, I didn’t want to meet her. But, God is toying with me today. I met up with her. And, she recognized me! Darn!” I confessed.

After listening to me, he sighed. “Don’t you ever stop? You keep on thinking these things. You also said la! A few years ago! Maybe she doesn’t blame you already leh? You can know meh?” He said.

When I saw him sigh, I also sighed. “Haiz. She kept on looking at me! She must be recalling what I have done to her. I’m doomed!”

“You raped her? If not, don’t think already la! A few years ago, you’re immature ma! Among six brothers, you’re the most problematic! You keep on letting past haunting you! Like that, you won’t happy de la! Forget it ba! I thought Eric told you to change liaw?! You ah..! Don’t know how to say you!” He advised.

Yeah, maybe he was right. But, hey! I raped her? Are you kidding? If I raped her, I would have killed myself years ago! Maybe I should forget it! Dennis! You must forget! Forget!

Finally, we finished our supper after some time. “Don’t think too much already la! Go back and have a nice sleep! Perhaps you need some girlfriends to calm yourself down. Never mind, tomorrow I take you go New World. Let you see some leng lui! Then only you can forget!” He mocked me before going back. What he’s thinking? Do I look like someone who plays girl?! Darn him!

So, before I went back home, I took a walk in my apartment garden. I remembered what Kelvin told me earlier. “Haiz. Forgetting? It’s not that easy! Better think how to redeem my sins after meeting again with her in future ler. Or maybe think how to escape from her ler!” I told myself.

That whole night, I felt sad. When I came back home, my weird parents looked at my sad appearance. “How? Lost your match already?” They asked.

“Yea. I lost! I lost! Happy?” I said angrily. Then, I went back to my room and directly sleep. “Yes. I lost the match. I lost to her. I lost to my fate.”

Unexpected!

Last night was a very surprising night for me. Well, maybe the most surprising night I ever had in my life. (Am I oversaying something?) As usual, I decided to stay in my grandmother’s house, which is near Chung Hwa High School, because I hoped to slack off a bit after a long, tiring study hours. But, too bad, my dinner had been eaten by everyone else! What this meant? It meant that I would not have my dinner that night! Ah! No dinner for me?!

Thanks to my caring mother, she decided to give me a surprise. I was curious about the “surprise” she was going to give me, so I made up my mind to follow my parents home, which is located near Gurney Plaza. Yeah! Firstly, I followed my parents to their company and helped them to finish some paper works they left off. I really hoped I could get salary for that. But, as their loyal son, I had to complete them for free! (They never know there’s no free lunch in this world! Ah well!)

After finishing the paper works, I was excited as I was going to get my surprise! Woo-hoo! But, they took me to three different banks instead, which are Hong Leong, Standard Charted and Maybank. What?! Were they kidding?! Why did they take me to three banks?! It was because they wanted to teach me how to deposit cash and cheques! Interesting! Hell no! The surprise was lame! Very very lame! Perhaps I would not have my dinner anymore! I was hungry!

Banking period was over! I asked them to take me to a bread shop, so that I could buy some breads to stuff into my mouth. Luckily, they showed mercy to me! They took me to KFC! Yay! I had a three years old mind anyway! I enjoyed my time eating two pieces of chickens, potato wedges, two cups of Pepsi! (I’m serious!) So, this was the surprise they were mentioning. Creative, weren’t they?!

So, thanks to the KFC boss, I settled my hungry problem! I could finally go home and continued on my study. But… But! They took me to somewhere odd. They took me to Gurney Hotel. What the hell! Were they really my parents?! I followed them to take the lift up to second floor. Hmm… Interesting! So, we were staying in Gurney Hotel that night! Cool beans! That’s what I call surprise!

While waiting for them to say, “Surprise!”, I felt something was wrong.. Something was very wrong! Why? We were heading to gym! Ah! Why a gym?! They registered their and my names inside the gym registration form! What were they thinking?! They were killing me! Help me, somebody! Then, my father said, “Surprise, son! You’re going to have a wonderful and tiring night tonight! Now, go play!”

Play?! I’m seventeen years old! They asked me to play?! Forcefully, I used the odd machine. I had to run on the machine and checked my capability. This was no challenge! Running is my specialty anyway! I didn’t know how to read the readings displayed on the machine, so I just continued running. Then, one of the instructor approached us and smiled. “Your son is doing quite well in running! You’re new here, kid?!” The instructor said. At that time, everyone who was exercising there was looking at me. Darn! Was he trying to mock me?!

Well, I had to reply! “Yes. My parents force me to join.” I answered. The instructor smiled. I knew he was laughing at me deep inside his heart. Parents were forcing their son to perform exercises in a gym! What a humiliation! “Good then. You should build up your muscles! You’re too skinny! How about taking some weights?” He said in a challenging tone.

I shook of course. I was not going to take some weights! Well, luckily he knew I was annoyed that time. So, he left me alone running. Yesh! Better leave or maybe I will give you my fist of fury! (Joking!) After the tiring exercise, I was completely worn out. I went to the cafeteria and drank a cup of coffee. Then, I took a shower there. After that, I went home with my parents. If you were wandering what they were doing when I was running, I will tell you that they were reading newspapers and watching TV.

When we reached home, I brushed my teeth and directly went to bed. I was tired. Thanks to them, I could not study! My SPM! Before I had time to complaint, I was asleep! That night was indeed an unexpected night!

Friends That Come Into My Life

To My Dearest Friends Especially Allan, Ji Hong & Shin Dee…

By Dennis

Friends come into my life,
Some stay… some go,
I guess I just have to follow the flow,
True friends are ones I feel that are guided to each of us,
People who are genuine and true.

Throughout my life,
I can honestly say,
I have had the privilege and honour,
To be guided to true souls on this earth,
Ones I know deep in my heart,
Will always be there,
Ones, who do deeply care,
No matter when or where,
My dear true friends,
You can always rely on me,
I have never and will never…
Let any of my true friends down,
Nor would I ever make you look like a clown!
So to each and every one of you,
I want to say,
I truly thank you all from the bottom of my heart,
I also thank spirit for guiding you all to me and please know I won’t part,
I will be there for you all,
Whether you need a shoulder to cry on,
An ear to listen,
Or just a hug,
You will always have me,
Because to me… true friends are very rare,
So when you find them,
You let them know you care.

The Life Once I Had

To Myself Who Had Met The Same Fate,

By Dennis

I’m a Wanderer,
Who’s looking for something,
That is significant to me.
I’m a Follower,
Who’s following an old path,
That makes me stronger.

During all these years,
I travelled everywhere,
Like a living corpse.
During all these days,
I observed everything,
Like a mad observer.

I’m praying to God,
To end my journey,
Yet, my prayers remain unanswered.
I’m begging everyone,
To make me stronger,
Yet, my request remain unfulfilled.

Finally,
Someone’s whispering to me,
Those whom I call Friends.
They offer me something,
Something I thought insignificant once,
Yet, it ends my journey.

At last,
Someone’s tapping my back,
Those whom I call Friends.
They award me something,
Something I thought weak once,
Yet, it makes me stronger.

I was a Wanderer,
Who had found something,
That I call Friendship.
I was a Follower,
Who had finished my new path,
That I call Happiness.

Conqueror’s Fate

To My Respected Juniors,

By Dennis

Tonight may be my final moment,
the last moment I recall,
those who I loved,
and those who I cared.
All these years,
I slain those pitiful defenders,
just to satisfy my fiery will,
and, to prove that I’m the strongest.

Staring at the darkening sky,
I notice how much time I had wasted,
I realize how many sins I had committed,
yet, my passion to conquer never fades.
In the battle field,
I witness how my loyal comrades fall,
I feel how their beloved ones feel,
yet, my will to conquer remains.

Now that everything is clear,
the waste of my time,
the sacrifice of my loyal comrades,
all for nothing.
Now that my empire is falling apart,
the terrible fate awaiting me,
the painful destiny haunting me,
rendering my achievements meaningless.

Tonight will be my final moment,
the last moment I stand up,
to redeem my sinful past,
and to reunite with my fallen comrades.
All these nights,
my brave army defend my fragile empire,
just to ignite my hope of survival,
and, to disobey Death’s judgment.

Fellowship & Brotherhood

To My Respected Foster Brothers, Yeoh Ji Hong & Wong Lin Fart…

By Wilbur D. Nesbit

Ho, Brother, it’s the handclasp and the good word and the smile
That does the most and helps the most to make the world worth while!
It’s all of us together, or it’s only you and I –
A ringing song of friendship, and the heart beats high;
A ringing song of friendship, and a word or two of cheer!
Then all the world is gladder and the bending shy is clear!

It’s you and I together — and we’re brothers one and all
When even through good fellowship we hear the subtle call,
Whenever in the ruck of things we feel the helping hand
or see the deeper glow that none but we may understand –
Then all the world is good to us and all is worth the while;
Ho, brother, it’s the handclasp and the good word and the smile!

By Dennis

Ho, Brothers…
Remember our oath,
that we’ll share pain,
that we’ll share happiness.
When one gets in trouble,
other will lend a helping hand.
When one faces challenges,
we face them together.
Please remember,
we’re not only sharing the same destiny,
we share the same soul!

Ho, Brothers…
Remember our past,
that we had been through hardships.
that we had been through difficulties.
Thanks to these,
the bond between us is harnessed.
Thanks to these,
our will is witnessed.
Please remember,
there’s never a thing about “you” or “me”,
there’s only “us”!

Ho, Brothers…
Remember our dream,
that we sworn to defeat the strongest enemy,
that we sworn to defeat the scariest enemy.
When we’re one,
we’re undefeatable.
When we’re one,
our strength surpasses everything.
Neither of us is stronger,
as we’re equal in strength.
That’s Brotherhood.

Graduation

Hmm… An important day for me in my life! Although something disappoints me, I don’t care anyway. The main point is to have fun, right?! So, I reached school around 7 a.m. to snatch my blazer from the prefect’s room before others snatched it! However, the “M” size blazer was all borrowed by somebody else, so I borrowed a “L” size instead. Ah! I was too late after all! It was a little bigger, but better than nothing!

After borrowing my blazer, I ran all the way to my class, 5SA2 (I’m serious…), hoping to have some fun with my classmates. To my disappointment, only some of them arrived and all of them were not the crazy-type person especially Allan (Sorry, Allan!). Before I left the class, he handed me my prefect certificate. Hooray! I fought three years for this paper and finally I got it! Most of my classmates said that the picture on the certificate was edited! How dare them!

After settling my certificate, I walked all the way to 5SB2 to find some old friends, hoping to find my three years best friend, Tict Chyuan as well. I heard he finally can drive to school, finding the chance to mock him. Ah! Found him! Both of us went to the canteen to have our breakfast as that was the last day we went to canteen together. I knew that, but all the stalls in canteen were tightly closed! What kind of canteen is that?! Ah well, we headed back to our class because it was photography time!

All Form 5 students spent 1 hour to take our memorable photos. I took some with my friends too! However, I was annoyed when Allan refused to take photo with me! What was he thinking?! Am I too ugly to take a photo with you?! Anyway, that was not the reason. He’s a cool-type person, so he won’t take any photo with anyone else.

Finally, we were asked to assemble in the wall and wait for V.I.P.! Interesting? Hell no! The Form 5 and Form 6 prefects were asked or perhaps ordered to greet the V.I.P. at the main gateway. Ah! I was going to graduate and the school ordered me to do such things. Never mind, I would take it as my last service for this school. We stood at the main gateway for like 40 minutes I think. Still, the V.I.P. were not arrived yet. That’s why they are called V.I.P.! While we were waiting for them, they were still having breakfast in their dining halls!

Finally, they arrived and we greeted them! Nothing else to comment about this. We entered the hall and sat at the right side corner after all the V.I.P. took their seats. Then, the graduation ceremony started! Yesh! We started by singing our beloved national anthem, “Negaraku” and our state anthem. Formality, eh? Don’t worry about that! I’m a patriotic person and I believe in “Malaysia Boleh!”.

Alrighty! Singing period ended! Now, boring speech period! I thought I could have a nice, short nap while the V.I.P. up there were speaking. Too bad, I could not! Tict Chyuan was playing pranks with the Form 6 prefects! Ah well! Meanwhile, I could see Allan shaking his head and was trying to comment something bad about them! Haha!

After the speech periond, Tict Chyuan asked me to go out with him. Sure thing! I planned to go out anyway. So, both of us went out through the main gateway with our school famous huntress, Choong Sim staring at us! She must be very disappointed when we did not ask permission from her! Serves you right! Who ask you to cut Tict Chyuan’s hair before the ceremony?! Outside the hall, we found Khoon Jie and Zhao Quan chit-chatting! Hah! Caught you! They told us that both sides outside the hall was guarded by two perfect guardians, Mr. Na and Mr. Lai. But, we’re going to take a simple walk anyway!

After we came back into the hall, it was already prize giving ceremony. And, what happened?! Tict Chyuan again! He argued with the Form 6 prefects whether 物理 or 生物 is Biology! Worse still, he said he was great because he could cause such a commotion! The school should have prepared a cheeky prize for him! Finally, the Form 6 prefects won because their facts about 生物 is Biology was right! Ah! Allan was saying something again! “Both of them are childish!” He said. I knew he was not pointing at me. I could comment nothing because it was difficult to. He had his point.

Next, the V.I.P. were going to give prize to the best graduated student and best performed student. Yes! I must took a good look on them and determined whether the world is fair or not. And, I could see Tict Chyuan was interested to join me as well. No wonder he is my best friend! The first 2 best performed students were quite imbalance because they were handsome and yet performed well academically. Not bad! The world is indeed unfair!

However! When it came to the Chung Ling Private, Tict Chyuan concluded that the world is fair! Because the girl who performed great was fat. I knew it was very rude to say that, but I could not resist myself from saying that. Then, another girl went up the stage to accept the prize for the best graduated student! To my surprise, she was perfect indeed! Both me and Tict Chyuan were forced to accept the world is unfair! Ah! We lost!

After the prize giving ceremony, we sang the graduation song and school anthem for the last time. I unleashed my bad singing potential, and probably annoy those who were sitting in front of me. -_- Anyway, the graduation ceremony ended! “The V.I.P. are welcomed to the canteen to have their food, and the students! Please remain seated! (You’re not going to have any food!)” Mr. Yap said.

Ah! I knew it! No food for us! I’m hungry! Nuuuu…! To ease our anger filling the atmosphere of the hall, Mr. Yap complimented us for performing well during the ceremony. That was the first time he complimented people! Ah! I could not believe it if I did not hear it myself! Anyway, he played his favourite song, “童话” like last year! We had no choice but to sing again! Once again, I caused annoyance for the prefects!

So… The ceremony was successfully ended! After taking the last photo with the Form 6 prefects, we went home! Easy?! Hell no! I wouldn’t forget to shake my best friends’ hands before going home! The END~~!
